COURTNEY NOLEN, LISW ANXIETY THERAPIST IN IOWA

I believe you have better days ahead.

Does anxiety often leave you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, exhausted, isolated, or fearful?

You’re in the right place.

Many people are intimidated by the thought of starting counseling. There can be a lot of fears about what to expect, especially when you are feeling anxiety on top of it all!

Sometimes anxiety can be incredibly difficult to explain to others, especially if they have never experienced it for themselves. Together, with my collaborative approach to therapy, we will work to identify the root causes of those very concerns that keep you feeling “stuck” in your anxiety and work to help you to feel a sense of relief and skills to help you feel just a little bit better every day.

Therapy with me isn’t all sitting & talking.

We’ll also work on real, practical skills that you can apply to your day-to-day life.

In treatment sessions I utilize trauma informed care. What that means for you is that you are welcome to share as much or as little as you would like while we are building our relationship together. Sometimes our life experiences cause us to behave in ways that may not be particularly helpful or serve us anymore. Some of the ways that we will work to address your anxiety or other concerns are:

  • Developing new skills to replace unhelpful skills

  • Working to change negative thinking patterns that can cause you to feel “stuck”

  • Addressing past life experiences and processing them in a healthy way in a non-judgmental environment

  • Using different therapy approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) , Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (Ex/RP) for OCD treatment, as well as other evidenced based treatment methods to provide relief for your symptoms.

My core values

I believe that every single person is an expert in their own lives and that there is not a “one-size fits all” approach to therapy. I work alongside you as more of a co-pilot helping navigate you through your stressors. You are in the drivers seat!

Compassion

I believe that every single person is unique and special. Everyone brings in their own experiences that mold us into who we are today. Sometimes those patterns are not helpful anymore. I want to help you to honor those patterns that served us well in the past, and work to find new ones that help us now.

Empathy

One of my goals in sessions is to for you to feel understood and listened to. Therapy can be fun and there it can be scary to look at things we have kept hidden away. Remember, on this adventure, I am with you on the journey to wellness.

Connection

It is important to be able to have a connection with your therapist. The relationship is at the heart of the growing and healing process. To help determine if I might be the right therapist for you, I offer free 15 minute consultation by phone. I want your experience with counseling to be a positive one.
